Finnmark FD-2 Full Spectrum 2-Person Infrared Sauna
Finnmark FD-2: A Two-Person Infrared Sauna That Still Plugs Into a Wall Outlet
The Finnmark FD-2 is a 2-person full-spectrum infrared sauna with a 48" x 44" footprint, and it runs on a standard 120V household circuit. That combination is genuinely uncommon. Once you move up to two-person capacity, most infrared saunas jump to 240V and require a dedicated circuit, an electrician, and panel space you may not have.
The FD-2 draws 1.7 kW on 120V / 15 A. In practical terms, that means the same installation story as a one-person cabin, with room for two people.
What "Two Person" Actually Means Here
Manufacturer capacity claims in this category are often optimistic, so here are the real numbers. The FD-2's interior measures 44" W x 40" D x 70" H.
- Two adults seated side by side: comfortable. 44 inches of bench width is roughly the same as a loveseat.
- One person stretched out: not quite. At 40" of depth, you can sit sideways with your legs up, but you cannot lie flat.
- One person with room to spare: this is how many FD-2 owners actually use it, and it is the most common reason people size up from the FD-1.
If two people will genuinely use it together on a regular basis, the FD-2 is the right size. If you want to lie down fully, you need to look at the FD-3.
Will It Fit In Your Space?
- Floor space: 48" wide by 44" deep — about 4 feet by 3.7 feet — plus door swing clearance and a few inches at the back.
- Ceiling height: 78" tall, so a standard 8-foot ceiling is fine. Measure the lowest point in the room if you have dropped ceilings, beams, or ductwork.
- Getting it in: ships as modular panels, not one assembled box. That is what makes it workable in row houses and up staircases. Measure your tightest turn, not your widest door.
- Weight: 441 lbs assembled, distributed across roughly 15 square feet. Well within normal residential floor loading, but worth noting if you are placing it on an upper floor of an older building.
The Heating System
The FD-2 uses two heater types together rather than relying on one:
- Spectrum Plus™ short-wave heaters (UL-Listed) deliver the more intense, directly penetrating heat.
- Spectrum Carbon 360° long-wave panels cover a much larger surface area at lower intensity, so heat is even across the cabin rather than concentrated.
That pairing matters more in a two-person cabin than a one-person one. In a wider space, carbon panels alone tend to leave cool spots toward the edges of the bench. The 360° panel layout is what keeps both seats at a similar temperature.
Maximum temperature is 170°F, reached in under an hour from cold.
FD-2 Compared to the FD-1 and FD-3
| Model | Capacity | Exterior | Interior | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FD-1 | 1 person | 38" W x 38" D x 78" H | 34" W x 34" D x 70" H | 120 V |
| FD-2 | 2 person | 48" W x 44" D x 78" H | 44" W x 40" D x 70" H | 120 V |
| FD-3 | 3–4 person | 72" W x 46" D x 78" H | 67" W x 41" D x 70" H | 240 V |
The FD-2 sits at a useful point in the range: it is the largest Finnmark indoor cabin that still runs on standard household power. Going one step further to the FD-3 means electrical work.

Shipping & Delivery
Freight cost: This product ships free to the contiguous United States. Canada is $490. On rare occasions, remote or complex delivery areas may not qualify for these rates — if that applies to your address, we will contact you before processing the order.
Delivery is curbside by freight carrier. At 441 lbs crated, plan on help getting the panels from the curb into the house. The modular design means individual panels rather than one assembled unit, but they are still substantial.
Inspect the shipment before signing and note any crate damage on the delivery paperwork. Freight claims are much easier to resolve when damage is documented at delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an electrician for the FD-2?
Usually not. The FD-2 runs on a standard 120V 15-amp circuit. The thing to check is whether that circuit already carries other heavy loads. If it shares a circuit with a window air conditioner, freezer, or similar appliance, have an electrician confirm capacity before installation.
Can two people really use the FD-2 comfortably?
Yes, seated side by side. The 44" interior width is comparable to a loveseat. What you cannot do is lie down — the 40" depth does not allow it. If lying flat matters to you, look at the FD-3.
How long does the FD-2 take to heat up?
Up to 170°F in under an hour from a cold start. Most owners preheat 30 to 45 minutes, slightly longer than the FD-1 because there is more cabin volume to bring up to temperature.
Should I buy the FD-1 or the FD-2?
If a second person will use it regularly, buy the FD-2. If you are the only user and space is genuinely tight, the FD-1 is the better fit. The most common regret we hear about is buying a one-person cabin and later wishing there were room for two — and since both run on 120V, the decision comes down to space and budget rather than electrical work.
Can the FD-2 go in a basement or garage?
A finished, dry basement is one of the most common placements and works well. An unheated garage does not — the FD-2 is built for indoor, climate-controlled spaces, and temperature swings will shorten the life of the cabinetry and electronics. For outdoor use, look at the FD-6 or FD-7 barrel saunas.
How much does the FD-2 cost to run?
At 1.7 kW, a one-hour session uses roughly 1.7 kilowatt-hours — comparable to running a space heater for an hour. Multiply by your utility's rate per kWh for a local estimate.
Is assembly difficult?
The modular panel system is designed for home assembly with two people and basic hand tools. Expect a few hours. Having a second person is genuinely necessary for the FD-2 rather than merely helpful, given the panel size.
What maintenance does it need?
Minimal. Wipe down benches and floor after use, leave the door ajar so the cabin dries, and vacuum the interior periodically. Do not seal or varnish the cedar — it is meant to be left bare.
